Stress Management

stress-managmentWhen I was at the mid-point of my career, I became intrigued with the concept that the ability to effectively manage my time was really a major factor in also lowering stress, both in my personal life and in my business world.  While I was learning to use basic time management and scheduling tools, I discovered an inexpensive but priceless pamphlet by Charles E. Hummel entitled “Tyranny of The Urgent”.  During this same period I accepted Jesus Christ as Lord of my life and this incredible event caused me to see the real need to value the precious hours I have been given, and to diligently try to make much better use of them. Now, I’d like to share a mixture of my practical experiences; things I have also been able to teach others, and key elements from “Tyranny of The Urgent”. Continue reading

How Will I Know When I Have Achieved True Prosperity and Success?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email
bill-2Since Executive Life Coaching is geared to helping professionals and whole businesses achieve success, a profound question immediately surfaces: “How Will I Know When I Have Achieved True Prosperity and Success?” For some there may never be enough money, fame or market share and I believe that is a sad situation.  Certainly a good life coach wants to help his or her clients establish meaningful personal, professional and (I hope) spiritual goals. Then an effective coaching process guides the client on a path of progress toward goal accomplishment. In the ideal coaching relationship, this “partnering” of coach and individual professional or business unit will entail much more than a quick fix or band aid approach to short term challenges.

As a Christian Executive Life Coach, I would like to share my definition of “True Prosperity”. I believe that we achieve “Godly Prosperity” when we have all the resources (the time, talent, skills, and yes the resources including money) to achieve what we believe Our Creator has called us to accomplish on this earth. We should not compare ourselves to others but rather stick to our God-given mission.

Once we believe that we have all the resources needed for achievement of our personal or company mission, then it is up to us to seek wisdom and press forward toward the total accomplishment of our goals. If we work for a business, this means that we are also dedicated to helping our employer achieve his or her objectives.  It may sound too simple but I firmly believe that if we use this approach to understanding prosperity and success, life will become less complex and a lot more enjoyable.  May God Bless your journey to true prosperity and lasting success.

How to Employ a SWOT Analysis to achieve Success

Print Friendly, PDF & Email
bill-3Business School students use a “SWOT” analysis approach to business opportunities. Let’s take a very quick look at what this means and more importantly how you can use a simplified “SWOT” approach to goal achievement for you and for your business.

The “S” stands for “Strengths” and this is where a person or a company’s strong points are listed. These can be personal or business strong points and examples might be superior sales skills or an outstanding value added product or service. The “W” is just the opposite and this leads to listing the “Weak Points” of vulnerability. This could be the fact that a product or service is new and unknown or that a person has relatively weak marketing or financial expertise or limited resources. Knowing the “W” helps when determining how to overcome or work around these areas; but the answer is definitely not in simply avoiding them.  Perhaps the weaknesses can be overcome with special training or life coaching, or they may best be handled via alliances with outside experts.

The“O” in “SWOT” represents “Opportunities”.  This may be opportunities for personal advancement, achievement of higher levels of income; or for a business it may lead to analysis of new products, services or markets.  Finally, the “T”  stands for “Threats”. Although this sounds ominous, it should be looked at as an analysis of things that may be beyond your control, but things that have the potential to derail your plans.  For a business this might lead to a careful study of new competitive technologies that could suddenly make what you provide obsolete.  An individual professional might find that he or she faces potential threats to their success path by a new method of delivering the goods or services they intend to deliver. An example might be the old door to door salesman who has been replaced by online ordering from EBay or Amazon.

With this simple explanation of  “SWOT” analysis, the next move is for a success minded professional to employ this approach to all consideration of new ventures, including career path decisions.  As a Christian Executive Life Coach, I also heartily recommend a heavy dose of prayer to get God in the middle of all your plans.  May The Lord bless your career and business decisions and provide His Wisdom to guide you.

Finding the Right Executive Life Coach

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

bill-1Executive Life Coaching is exploding in North America, because businesses and progressive professionals embrace the fact that it will significantly enhance performance and goal achievement, which translates to bottom line results.  Life coaching works in all aspects of life and that’s why there are so many specialized life coaches.  Once the value-added potential of life coaching is accepted, the challenge arises in selecting a coach who will help the person or the business move from status quo (point A) to goal accomplishment (point B). Effective life coaching should help the client set a life course to go even further on the path to true success.

There are literally tens of thousands of life coaches and many have advanced degrees and hold board certifications from credible organizations.  That is a great place to start but it is just the first hurdle in selecting a coach who can get the job done for you.  I suggest adding the following items to your executive life coach selection criteria:

  • Character, ethics and morals compatible with you and your organization.
  • Experience that is relevant to your journey to goal achievement.
  • Wisdom or “street smarts” that go far beyond what is taught in universities. The ability to help the person being coached apply (factual) knowledge in a way that will produce results in today’s world.
  • A personality that encourages, exhorts people to extra effort, and also insists on accountability for agreed upon progress steps.

So, do your research and establish contact with one or two top executive life coach choices.  A personal meeting is great, but if that’s not possible then arrange a live video chat and see how the coach meets your litmus test. If your “gut” says go, then why not commit yourself, your business unit or selected employees to a block of one hour life coaching sessions.  If you can envision this coaching influence leading to success, then there is much to gain and very little risk.  Happy Searching and God Bless.
